A man has appeared in court charged with a major drugs bust in north Dublin. Brendan Mangan of Tonlegee Road in Coolock was arrested after over €2 million worth of cannabis was seized on Friday.

On Friday afternoon officers from the Garda Drugs Unit moved in on a number of houses in the Coolock area. The searches were carried out as part of an intelligence-led operation and the unit was backed up by local, uniformed gardai.

During these searches, cannabis herb worth an estimated €2.38 million was seized and one man was arrested.

Security officer Brendan Mangan (42) was brought to court today in connection with the haul. He is facing one charge of having drugs for sale or supply on March 7th at Tonlegee Road in Coolock.

Detective Garda Joseph McBride told Judge Cormac Dunne that the State objected to bail on a number of grounds.

These included the seriousness of the charge, the amount of drugs involved and the fact he is no longer welcome in his rented accommodation.

Despite this, Judge Dunne decided to grant bail under very strict conditions.

Judge Dunne noted the gardai's reservations but decided to grant bail under a number of strict conditions.

He then remanded the father of one in custody with consent to bail. He is due to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday.
