A man has appeared in court charged in connection with the death of Jason Saunders (21), who was found unconscious on a Dublin street two days ago. Paul Brannigan of Fassaugh Avenue is accused of using a golf club to assault Mr. Saunders in Cabra.
A passerby found Mr. Saunders lying on Fassaugh Avenue at around 7:40am on the morning after St. Patrick's Day. He died from his injuries less than an hour later.
Paul Brannigan (22) was brought to court today charged with assault causing harm and using a golf club during a fight.
He wore a sling on his left arm and scanned the public gallery while his case was being heard.
Gardai said further, more serious charges could be brought against him and objected to bail on a number of grounds.
Among them is an allegation he approached two shop workers on Fassaugh Avenue about some CCTV footage shortly after the alleged assault.
Judge Patricia McNamara refused bail and remanded Mr. Brannigan in custody to appear in court again next week.
His solicitor pointed out that his client has a broken arm, and Judge McNamara ordered for him to be provided with medical attention while in custody.
