A man has been found guilty of the manslaughter of another man, whose body was found inside a wardrobe in his Dublin City apartment in August 2022.

Dean Caffrey, with an address in Beaucourt, Achill Road, Drumcondra, claimed he was acting in self-defence when 28-year-old Sean McCarthy came at him in a dispute over missing drugs.

He told Gardaí that Mr McCarthy was armed and that his gun "just went off" during the struggle that followed.

Sean McCarthy was last seen alive on the 2nd of August 2022, walking towards Achill Road in Drumcondra where Dean Caffrey was living at the time.

A few days later, Caffrey walked into Ashbourne Garda Station to tell Gardaí they’d find his body inside a wardrobe in his apartment.

He told them Mr. McCarthy had called to his house with a gun in his pocket over what he claimed was a dispute over missing drugs.

He claimed a struggle ensued during which he managed to disarm Mr McCarthy, and that the gun just went off.

He then used bubble wrap and bin liners to cover the body and hid it in his wardrobe.

He denied the murder charge, claiming he was acting in self-defence when he killed Mr McCarthy, and after deliberating for just over twelve hours, the jury cleared him of murder but convicted him of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

His sentence hearing will take place in March.
