A man has been found guilty of raping a Spanish tourist in Dublin in the early hours of New Years Day.

The 33-year-old had pleaded not guilty and claimed what happened between them on a street near Dublin Castle in 2019 was consensual.

The court heard this Spanish tourist had rang in the New Year with her friend.

She became separated from her sometime after midnight and got talking to a man outside a shop in Dublin city.

She wanted to find a bar where her friend was and said she was walked loads and became confused when they didn’t arrive at the bar.

She said she didn’t have a clear memory of what happened next but remembered him holding tightly on to her waist and that’s when she believes he raped her.

She said she felt like a doll with no strength in her body.

It was the prosecution’s case that she didn’t consent to it and that she was incapable of consenting because of the effects of alcohol.

The man had denied rape claiming it was consensual.

But the jury didn’t believe him and has convicted him.
