A man has been found guilty of murdering his former flatmate by stabbing him over sixty times in Dublin three years ago.

Sebastian Barczuk of Briarwood Lawn, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15, dumped his friend's body in a country lane afterwards.

Michal Kurek's body was found lying face down in the gateway of a country lane in Dublin on the morning of August 4th, 2017.

He had been stabbed 62 times, including 25 times in the back.

Sebastian Barczuk denied having anything to do with it and, when asked why someone would kill his friend, he said he didn't know and suggested maybe he owed money to a psychopath.

The prosecution used forensic evidence as well as CCTV footage and phone data to secure a murder conviction against him. The jury found him guilty this afternoon by a majority verdict.

The 32-year-old will be handed the mandatory life sentence next month.
