A man has been handed a life sentence for stabbing his wife to death in their Dublin home.
Just before Christmas, a jury convicted Alan Ward, of Greenfort Drive, Clondalkin, of murdering Catherine Ward in the early hours of March 1st 2019.
After killing her, his trial heard he then tried to stab one of their sons before threatening to kill him.
Catherine Ward was described as “kind-hearted, bubbly and well-liked” in a Victim Impact Statement read out on behalf of her family today.
After the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Sean Cosgrove reminded all victims of domestic abuse that help is out there if they need it.
He said: "On behalf of An Garda Síochana, I would like to reiterate those comments relating to people that are in abusive or violent relationships.
"Seek help: come to An Garda Síochana, the courts, or any of the agencies that are there to help you."
