A man is in a critical condition after he was attacked and seriously assaulted overnight in Dublin.

The incident happened at an apartment on Kelly's Row, in Dorset Street at 1.45am.

The victim - who is in his late 30s - was taken to the Mater Hospital but has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he is said to be in a critical condition.

A man in his late 20s was arrested by Gardaí this morning in connection with the assault.
