A man remains in critical condition in hospital after a serious assault in Cork yesterday evening.

The man, aged in his 20s was found on the side of the road at the Glenwood Estate, in Carrigaline at around 5:45pm.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A man in his late teens has since been arrested and is being held at Togher Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who were in the area around the estate between 5pm and 5:45pm to contact them.

They are particularly interested in talking to road users who were in the area and may have camera footage of the incident.
