A man is in critical condition in hospital following a crash between a motorcycle and a car in Kildare last night. 

It happened shortly after 9.20pm last night on the R418 at Fontstown Cross between Athy and Kilcullen. 

The motorcyclist, a man aged 20, was seriously injured and brought to Tallaght University Hospital where he remains in critical condition. 

The people in the car were uninjured. 

The road is currently closed as a full examination of the crash will be conducted by Garda Forensic Collison Investigators. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.   

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was in the area and may have dashcam footage.
