A 35 year old man has been taken to hospital following a shooting incident in Drogheda.

It's understood the man received gunshot wounds to his leg in the Moneymore estate sometime after 6 o'clock this evening.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The scene has been preserved and a garda investigation is underway.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Gardai.
