A man has been hospitalised after a shooting in a residential area of Belfast.
The incident occurred in the Short Strand area of the city at around 7.45pm.
The man was shot while walking in the area.
He was then treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
PSNI detectives have appealed for people who may have witnessed the shooting or who may have information to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Duffield described it as a "disgraceful attack" and has asked that anyone who was in the area last night and who noticed any suspicious activity to contact police.
He said: "Guns have no place in our community.
"We are fortunate that we are not dealing with a fatality today following this disgraceful attack in which a firearm was discharged in a residential area in the early evening.
"The people undertaking these attacks do not represent our communities."
