A man in his 40s has died in a single vehicle road crash in Co Westmeath.

The man was killed when the truck he was driving left the road on the N52 between Mullingar and Delvin in the townland of Williamstown at around 12.30pm this afternoon.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Mullingar Regional Hospital.

The road is currently closed pending a technical examination of the scene, and local diversions are in place.
