One man is being treated for serious head injuries at a Galway hospital after a crash this morning.

He was travelling in a van with three other men at about 6.30 am when they hit a bridge on the road from Nenagh to Loughrea, at the Portumna Bridge.

The injured man has been taken to Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe - the other three men were not hurt.

Gardaí in Portumna have closed the road for a forensic examination.
