A father-of-five has been jailed for 9 years for his part in a tiger raid in which a Dublin bank manager's husband and two small children were held hostage in a van.

Michael Mc Guirk of Captain's Road in Crumlin, pleaded guilty to the robbery at Bank of Ireland in Inchicore on October 23rd 2009 in which more than €200,000 was taken.

The family of Bank of Ireland branch officer Nicola Hall were held captive in a van, while she went to work and collected the cash for the robbers.

Crime 'bordering on the horrific'

She had been given instructions by 3 masked men who had entered her Lucan home the night before, and put a gun to both her and her husband's head. Michael McGuirk's role in the crime was to ring 999 and report where her family could be found once the money was delivered.

Judge Des Hogan said it was a 'very, very nasty crime bordering on the horrific' as he imposed a 10-year sentence with the final year suspended.

The 45-year-old is the father of David Curran of Lissadel Green in Drimnagh who is serving life for the double murders of Polish mechanics Pawel Kalite and Marius Szwajkos who he stabbed in the head with a screwdriver in 2008.
