A man has been jailed for 10 and a half years for controlling his ex-girlfriend, and subjecting her to 20 months of fear and violence.
Daniel Kane - of Scariff House, Waterville Terrace, Blanchardstown in Dublin - also threatened to post explicit material of her online if she did not withdraw her statement.
During the 22-day trial, the jury heard distressing evidence about what life with Kane was like for the woman.
She outlined how he regularly beat and berated her, but also took control of all aspects of her life - including her finances and access to friends and family.
He broke her arm, slashed her face with a pizza slicer, put a cigarette out on her foot, regularly punched her in the face, head butted and strangled her.
Even after he was charged and awaiting trial, he tried to exert control over her by manipulating her to withdraw her statement through phone calls from prison.

After Kane was sentenced, Chief Superintendent Finbarr Murphy had this message for the woman who gave evidence against her ex in court.
"It was really, really brave what you did - it took great courage, it took great resilience and it took a lot to stick with this throughout .
"You have given yourself the opportunity to turn your life around - thank you for telling your story in the manner which you did.
"You can be forever more proud of that, and as you go through your recovery we wish you every good health and success in your life into the future."
The woman was not in court today but is said to be pleased with the outcome.
Kane has never apologised to her, nor has he expressed any remorse for what he did.
