A man has been jailed for over 7 years for raping a 2-year-old girl in the Australian territory of Tasmania. The family of the girl clapped in court as a Hobart judge sentenced the man to 7 a half years.
The man who cannot be named for legal reasons was her mother's then boyfriend. The then 24-year-old took the girl into the bathroom of a Hobart shopping centre and raped her on the toilet floor.
The court heard he filmed the attack on a mobile phone but initially denied it. He only admitted what he had done when forensic evidence linked him to the crime, ABC reports
The court heard the father of four had an extensive criminal history and was first imprisoned at 13 but has no prior convictions for sexual offences.
He will not be eligible for parole for 4 years and is also to be placed on the sexual offenders register for 15 years.
