A man has been jailed for six years for sexually assaulting his children's babysitter.
54-year-old Martin O’Brien, of Gurrane, Belclare, Tuam, Co. Galway, pleaded guilty to four charges of sexual assault on dates between June 2012 and February 2014.
Áine McHugh, who was a teenager at the time, described how he used to sexually assault her on the couch while his wife and children were asleep upstairs.
Ms McHugh waived her right to anonymity in the hope her story would inspire other survivors of sexual violence to come forward.
"I want to speak to every child or teenager who has suffered or is suffering sexual abuse," Ms McHugh said.
"If you can hear me, please know that you've done nothing wrong - there is nothing wrong with you. Please tell an adult that you trust.
"To the adults who may receive their disclosure - please listen, help them and do the right thing."
Ms McHugh said she "feels free" today.
