A man has been jailed for 10 months for threatening to put intimate images of his ex-girlfriend online.
The 45-year-old, who pleaded guilty, said he had become annoyed after the break-up.
The accused was in a very brief relationship with the victim, which she ended in November 2021.
She was aware he had certain intimate images of her and a few weeks after the break-up he sent her a threatening voice recording on Snapchat.
He threatened to send the intimate images to people she knew, including her mother - a social worker - and post them on Facebook.
Arrest
The victim went to a Garda station in Dublin the same day the threat was made.
The accused was then arrested in a pub and told Gardaí he had been drinking, he was annoyed and apologised.
Judge Martin Nolan said to threaten someone in this way was very disconcerting and said people are entitled to their privacy – "it’s as simple as that".
The accused - who has addiction issues and is homeless - was sentenced to 20 months in prison with 10 suspended.
