A man has been jailed for three years for a string of burglaries, including one at the constituency office of Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh.
Shane Cooney of Kilmainham Square, Inchicore in Dublin broke into his office on March 20th 2018, and made off with a number of electronic devices.
In 2018, Deputy Ó Snodaigh - TD for Dublin South Central - shared a constituency office in Drumfinn, Dublin 10 with then Sinn Féin Senator Máire Devine.
On March 20th of that year, Shane Cooney broke into their office and stole laptops, mobile phones and other items.
He also admitted breaking into a coffee shop and Tesco Express on South Circular Road the following month by kicking the front doors in while armed with a wrench.
The court heard he made off with almost €4,000 from a clothes shop on Wicklow Street eight months later. The owner hadn’t made it to the bank that day.
The judge acknowledged the 29-year-old’s drug addiction, and the “trojan efforts” he has made to rehabilitate himself.
However, given his 93 previous convictions, and the fact he was on bail for an aggravated burglary at the time, she felt a custodial sentence was required, and she jailed him for three years.
