Gardaí are investigating the fatal assault of a man in County Westmeath early this morning.
An injured man in his 40s was found on Church Street, Athlone, at 2:35am today, August 13th, following a public order incident.
He was taken to Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe, where he was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
No arrests have been made yet and the scene at Church Street is currently preserved for technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The Gardaí have asked that any person who may have video footage of this incident, including mobile phone or dash cam footage, and were travelling in the Church Street area between 2am and 2:45am make this footage available to an Garda Síochána.
