A man in his 30s has been killed following an assault in Finglas, Co Dublin, overnight.
It happened at roughly 1am at a home in the Scribblestown area, where the man was found with serious injuries.
It is understood that the man was stabbed.
He was treated at the scene and brought to Connolly Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The State Pathologist has been notified and a postmortem examination will take place in due course.
A senior investigating officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the inquiry.
A Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to keep the deceased's family informed of developments.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the Scribblestown area between midnight and 1am.
They are particularly interested in people with video recordings or dashcam footage.
