A man has gone on trial accused of murdering a man whose body was found inside a wardrobe in an apartment in Dublin two years ago.
Dean Caffrey - with an address in Beaucourt, Achill Road in Drumcondra - denies murdering Sean McCarthy sometime between August 2nd and August 7th 2022.
Sean McCarthy was last seen alive on August 2nd 2022 walking towards Achill Road in Drumcondra where the accused man, Dean Caffrey, was living at the time.
The jurors were told that a few days later, Mr Caffrey told Gardaí in Ashbourne that they'd find the body of a man inside a wardrobe in his apartment - which they did.
They will hear evidence that he told the guards Mr McCarthy called over with a gun in his pocket over what he claimed was a dispute over missing drugs.
He claimed a struggle ensued during which he managed to disarm Mr McCarthy.
A shot was then fired in his direction ultimately causing his death.
The jury will hear that Mr Caffrey told Gardaí the gun “just went off,” and that he was “acting in self-defence.”
The trial is expected to take up to six weeks.
