A man has been ordered to stay away from ATMs after being charged with the theft of over €8,000 from cash points across Dublin.

The theft took place over three days last month.

'Reversal fraud' involves a criminal taking money out of an ATM, but they manage to trick the machine into thinking the cash wasn't taken.

AIB noticed this happening at some of its ATMs in Dublin last month.

This morning, 35-year-old Ovidiu Raducanu of Pinebrook Glen in Huntstown appeared before Dublin District Court charged with 15 counts of theft.

The court heard the 'reversal fraud' took place at ATMs in Crumlin, Killiney, Clonskeagh, Firhouse, Rathfarnham, Santry, Artane, Clonee and Carpenterstown between the 8th and 10th of January - and amounted to €8,520.

Mr Raducanu was arrested yesterday just before midnight and made no reply to the charges.

An application for bail was made and granted but with a number of conditions.

They include that he stays away from all ATMs until he is due back in court next month.
