A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a charge arising from an attack on a teenage girl that led to her losing her right eye.

Jack Cummins of Rossmore Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin, was due to stand trial but entered a guilty plea when the case came before the courts today.

On the day before New Year 2021, Alanna Quinn Idris and her friend were targeted by a gang of teenage boys in a residential part of Ballyfermot.

She was just 17-year-old at the time.

One of the boys, who has yet to be identified, is alleged to have hit her in the face with the saddle of an e-scooter, leaving her blind in one eye.

Jack Cummins was initially charged with violent disorder and assault causing harm.

He was due to stand trial but his plea to a lesser charge of procuring the commission of an assault causing harm to Ms Quinn Idris was accepted by the DPP today.

Cummins, who has no previous convictions, was allowed to remain on bail ahead of a sentence hearing on the 12th of May.

Two other young men have already been jailed for their roles in the attack.
