A post mortem exam is due to be carried out this morning on the body of a woman who was killed in an attack at her home in west Dublin yesterday.
A man remains in gardaí custody this morning in connection with the attack.
The 57-year-old woman was found seriously injured after emergency services were alerted and gardaí, with members of the armed support unit, arrived at the house in Willow Wood Grove in Hartstown.
It's believed a sword was used in the attack.
Emergency services treated the woman at the scene, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.
A 60-year-old man - who it is believed was known to the woman - was arrested and brought to Blanchardstown Garda Station.
Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry and a murder investigation is expected to be launched depending on the results of a post-mortem exam today.
