A convicted drug dealer has been handed a life sentence for shooting a young father while he was pushing his baby in a pram near a school in Dublin.

Wayne Cooney, from Glenshane Drive in Tallaght shot 22-year-old Jordan Davis three times in broad daylight over a €70,000 drug debt.

During the trial, the jurors were shown shocking CCTV footage of Jordan’s last moments.

In broad daylight on May 22nd 2019, a man on a bike pulled up behind him in a laneway between a school and a church in Darndale.

Jordan was out for a walk with his four-month-old son.

The gunman fired eight shots from a semi-automatic pistol; three of which hit the young father. Two proved fatal.

Wayne Cooney denied being the gunman but after just over three hours of deliberations, the jury found him guilty of murder and related firearms offences.

In her victim impact statement, Jordan’s mother, Sandra, described her son as a “great dad” and a “soft-hearted gentle giant.”

Before passing sentence, Mr Justice Tony Hunt described what happened to Jordan as a “sad lesson” in the dangers of becoming involved in drug crime.

He then handed Cooney the mandatory life sentence for murder.
