A man in his 70s has been seriously injured after he was hit by an SUV in Dublin yesterday afternoon.

The man was out walking when he was struck by the car on the Old Dublin Road in Stillorgan at around 4.20pm.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV did not need immediate medical attention.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination and local diversion were in place last night.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and may have video footage.
