A Canadian man has escaped serious injury after trying to tackle a mouse.

Dale Whitmell tried to crush the rodent with the butt of a rifle at a camp in Ontario but did not realise the gun was loaded.

A shot was discharged with the bullet grazing the forehead of the 40-year-old.

A police spokesman said he was briefly treated in hospital before being discharged.

It is not known what happened to the mouse.
