A man has been shot by police officers near a Euro 2024 fanzone in Hamburg after threatening officers with an axe. 

German media is reporting the incident happened after noon near an area for supporters of the Dutch football team. 

Police said a man threatened police officers with a pickaxe and an "incendiary device". 

Officers then shot the man and he is now receiving medical treatment.

Police said they don't believe the incident is Euro 2024-related.

A major police operation is now underway, and investigations are ongoing. 

The Netherlands will play against Poland in a Euro 2024 match in Hamburg this afternoon.
