A man in his 40s has been shot dead in Ballyfermot, Dublin.
Gardaí were called to a house on Thomond Road early this morning where they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.
The house remains sealed off to allow a Garda investigation to be carried out.
The state pathologist has been notified and anyone with any information is being asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200.
No arrests have been made.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Daithaí Doolan told Newstalk that Gardaí need to work harder tackling crime in the area:
“People here in Ballyfermot are good people… It’s a wonderful quiet community but what I am concerned [about] is that the Gardaí may have lost their grip on certain elements in communities here.
“We cannot allow a small percentage of any community to hold the rest of us to ransom. That’s unacceptable and we will not allow it to happen.
"So we need to work with the Gardaí to make sure that we get control of that very small element.
“That they’re apprehended and that they’re brought to justice and face the full rigours of the law.”
