A man has died following a shooting in Dublin.

The incident happened on the Ballycoolan Road in Finglas shortly at around 5 o'clock this evening.

The man-who was in his 40’s- was shot on the road by a lone gunman.

He was taken to the Connolly Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the Ballycoolin Rd is currently closed from the Premier Business Park to the Cappagh Road. This section of Road is expected to remain closed overnight.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
