A man has been shot outside a gym in an industrial estate in north Dublin. He was shot a number of times as he made his way into work at the Ballyboggan industrial estate in Glasnevin.

It took place just before 11am this morning as the man made his way into work on the Ballyboggan Road. The gunman was waiting for him when he arrived and shot him several times before making his escape.

Gardai have sealed off the scene and a team of forensic experts have arrived.

The victim, a bodybuilder is in 30s, is a father of 3 and Gardai say they do know him but that he has no criminal convictions. This shooting is the 3rd attempt on his life.

In 2008 he survived a knife attack and a bullet proof vest saved him from another shooting in 2011.

He is being treated in the Mater Hospital this afternoon where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition. No arrests have yet been made but Gardai are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
