A Post mortem examination is expected to take place in the morning on the body of a man who died after being stabbed in Smithfield in Dublin.
The attack happened at Ormond Square just after 3pm this afternoon.
The victim was stabbed multiple times in the neck and body. It is not yet clear how this latest stabbing incident came about but the man died following what appears to have been a frenzied attack at Ormond Square.
Its believed the man had been living in the area for more than ten years and was a well-respected business owner.
It is the second such attack in the capital in under 24 hours. Yesterday a man was stabbed to death in Tallaght.
It happened at a house in Kiltalown Way and a man was arrested at the scene. Gardai say the victim - a man in his 30s - had been drinking heavily at the house.
He was attacked after a fight broke out between a group of men.
A knife was recovered from the scene and a man in his 30s was taken in for questioning and a post-mortem is underway.
In relation to the stabbing this afternoon gardai are asking anyone who may have witnessed the attack or anyone with information to come forward.
The scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination.
