Gardaí are investigating an aggravated burglary in Cobh, Co Cork.

Officers were alerted to an incident at an apartment on Lynch's Quay shortly before 2.00am on Sunday.

A man in his 40s was allegedly assaulted by another man and had multiple stab wounds following a fight.

The injured man was taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.

Another man aged in his 20s was arrested a short time later and is being detained at Cobh Garda station.

He is due to appear in Cork City Court later.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
