A man warned Gardai that he knew ‘King Nidge’, from RTE drama Love/Hate, a court has heard.
Gardai arrested Keith Rooney while he was on a stag party in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, The Irish Times reports.
Gardai were called to the scene after Mr Rooney was involved in a disagreement with security staff at Voodoo Nightclub in Letterkenny. When they attempted to arrest him, Rooney told them he knew ‘King Nidge’, and his friends in Drogheda and Ballymun.
He was subsequently charged with being intoxicated and refusing to comply with directions from gardai.
Judge Paul Kelly asked Mr Rooney if he realised King Nidge was a fictional character and if his friends in Drogheda “were real or imaginary".
Solicitor Frank Dorrian told the court that his client's remarks about ‘King Nidge’ were meant to be amusing, not abusive.
Mr Rooney was ordered to pay €400 to the Irish Wheelchair Association and warned to “watch yourself” by Judge Kelly.
