The search for a man who stole a car in Dublin with a five-month-old baby inside it remains ongoing.
A Child Rescue Alert was issued following the incident in Dublin city centre yesterday afternoon.
The car was hijacked in the Mountjoy Square area of the city but the child was later found.
Garda Superintendent Liam Geraghty outlined the operation that led to the young girl’s safe return.
“Gardaí immediately commenced searches in the north inner city and an emergency alert was issued to all Gardaí on patrol,” he said.
“An Garda Síochána issued a public alert for information on the vehicle and a formal Child Rescue Ireland alert was issued.
“A very short period later, the Nissan was recovered on North Richmond Street in the north inner city by Gardaí on patrol and searching for the vehicle.”
Although the child was found, the Garda investigation into the abduction has only just started.
“Gardaí are appealing for any person who observed either the incident on Mountjoy Square West shortly before 2pm or the car being parked on North Richmond Street,” Garda Superintendent Geraghty said.
Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact their local Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
