Michael Greaney, who died in a murder-suicide at his family home in Cobh in Co Cork on Sunday, is to be buried today.

Yesterday, hundreds of mourners gathered at St Colman's Cathedral in Cobh for the funeral mass of Michael's wife, Valerie Greaney (49).

She died after being stabbed by her husband, who later took his own life.

Their daughter Michelle was also injured in the incident, and attended the funeral with her sister.

Mr Greaney's funeral will take place this afternoon and will be strictly private.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is investigating the deaths, as Mr Greaney had been released from the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin less than two months before the tragedy.
