An investigation is underway after a man's body was discovered in a field in Co. Meath earlier.

The body of the man - in his mid 20's -was found at Ballymacan, between Slane and Collon, at around 5pm.

The area has been sealed off for a technical examination and the office of the state pathologist attended the scene.

The body has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where a post mortem is due to take place later.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact Navan Garda Station.
