Anti-Thatcher groups have urged others to buy a copy of the Wizard of Oz song Ding-Dong! The With is Dead to express their happiness at Baroness Thatcher’s death. The Judy Garland song is currently at number one in the iTunes UK singles charts with estimates of around 20,000.

Thatcher fans, meanwhile, have launched a counter campaign online to try and get the 1980 Notsensibles punk song I’m in Love With Margaret Thatcher to the top of the charts instead. It is currently 29th place on iTunes.

Ben Cooper of BBC Radio One, meanwhile, has responded to questions over whether the weekly chart show will broadcast a clip of Ding-Dong to reflect its placement. Although claiming he personally views the song as “disrespectful”, the station controller has said a brief clip of the track will be played “within a journalistic environment” in order to reflect a “historical fact” and educate the audience about the campaign.

Tom Dunne spoke about the campaign on his Newstalk show this morning calling it “horrific” and a “hate campaign”.
