One Brazilian couple received an unwelcome surprise when they participated on a radio show that specialises in reuniting lost family members.

Neither Adriana, 39, nor Leandro, 37, had known their mother growing up, though both were aware that their mothers shared the name Maria. 

When she finally spoke to her daughter, Maria announced that she had also abandoned a second child, her son Leandro. Adriana was shocked: "I don’t believe that you’re telling me this. Leandro is my husband."

The pair have no plans to split up, and though they are not legally wed, plan to continue living as a married couple. They have known each other for over a decade and have a six-year old-child together.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, Adriana said:

"Only death is going to separate us. All this happened because God wanted it to happen.”¨ At first we were really knocked by it all, but we had a family meeting and told everyone that we are going to stay husband and wife, whatever anyone might think. 

"We have so many plans together. Nothing is going to break us up. Nothing," she added.
