The US fast-food chain McDonald's is expanding its delivery service in Ireland.

It is partnering with Just Eat across Ireland and the UK later this year.

This will see the food delivery app become the second company to offer the so-called 'McDelivery'.

UberEats has offered McDonald's delivery here from participating restaurants since 2018.

Peter Duffy, Just Eat's interim CEO, said: "We are delighted to announce that we have agreed to partner in the UK and Ireland with McDonald's.

"This partnership, along with our recently announced relationship with Greggs, will require significant investment but will accelerate our growth ambitions and enhance our market position by offering our customers the widest choice available".

Just Eat operates a hybrid marketplace for online food delivery.

Headquartered in London, it has more than 240,000 restaurant partners across Ireland, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Switzerland and Brazil.

In Ireland, Just Eat has over 2,100 takeaway restaurants online.

The company says the Just Eat app was downloaded over two million times since it was launched in Ireland five years ago.
