The Taoiseach has been accused of "clowning around Europe" and "urinating on the Seanad".

The outburst came this afternoon from Fianna Fáil Senator Marc McSharry who called for a debate in the Seanad on the Taoiseach's "behaviour in recent weeks" and went on to say that he should "bloody well resign".

The Sligo based Senator was quickly ruled out of order as other Senators objected to his choice of words.

Senator Marie-Louise O'Donnell declared "I object to that kind of language in regard to the Taoiseach".

But that led to a retort from Senator McSharry "He nominated you as a Senator".

He then accused Cathaoirleach Paddy Burke of facilitating the Taoiseach of "urinating on the Seanad" and added that Mr Kenny should "bloody well resign".

The row is likely to be just one of many outbursts as the Government plans to proceed with the abolition of the Seanad.

And if you want to know what the Seanad actually does, we try and explain it here in one minute.
