Getting a job can prove to be a daunting and difficult task for even some of the qualified applicants. So, getting a job when you're homeless could appear nearly impossible.

However, that's not the case in Fort Collins, Colorado, where a coffee shop is staffed entirely by homeless people – and what's more, it appears to be working very well.

RedTail Coffee was opened by Seth and Kelly Kelley to provide job opportunities for low-income applicants and homeless people.

The coffee shop is located alongside a new council housing development called Red Tail Ponds and the only criteria job applicants must fulfill is that they are from the area.

After the Kelleys attended a neighbourhood meeting they were shocked to discover how many people were against the housing development, and decided to open the coffee shop to help some of the low-income and homless people out of poverty.

"If you’ve been homeless and have a gap on your resume, people don’t give you a chance. It’s a cycle that’s really hard to shake," Seth Kelley, co-founder of RedTail Coffee, told ThinkProgress.

"It’s been a very positive experience thus far," Seth said. "It’s definitely opening up the eyes of people who live in the area."

Even with its altruistic motives, the Kelleys are still running a for-profit business, but are doing an excellent job already at their first self started business.

RedTail Coffee opened its doors just three months ago, but it has already managed to turn a profit.

Even as homeless people face steep challenges from potential employers, the Kelleys are proud to show that doing good has paid off well for them and their staff.
