German Chancellor, Angela Merkel may meet Greece's new leader, Alexis Tsipras at an EU summit on February 12th. A representative of Dr Merkel said that the two will have the opportunity to meet at the EU event - but no concrete plans have been made.
A spokesperson for German Finance Minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble announced that he would meet with Greek Finance Minister, Yanis Varoufakis in Berlin "in the coming days" - but details of that meeting have not been confirmed.
Speaking at Reuters Euro Zone Summit today (Feburary 2nd), Mr Schaeuble said: "We want Greece to continue going down this successful path in the interests of Greece and the Greeks but we will not accept one-sided changes to the programme."
Mr Varoufakis announced last week that the new Greek government does not recognise, and will not engage with the EU/IMF Troika.
He said this during a press conference with Eurogroup Chief, Jeroen Dijsselbloem. The Dutch Finance Minister looked visibly shocked as the translation of the Greek's comments were fed through his earpiece.
Mr Varoufakis is currently on a tour of European capitals - he held Sunday meetings with his French counterpart, Michel Sapin yesterday.
Speaking to the media in Paris, the Syriza Finance Minister clarified that the Greek government sees the Troika as a technocratic term, and believes that: "They do not have the authority to negotiate with us."
He continues: "It is a waste of time. It is better to talk directly with the Eurogroup, the ECB and the IMF."
The French Minister indicated his support for dialogue between Greece and EU authorities: "In the future Greece will have the chance to express its opinion regarding the reforms. France will assist Greece on that track. We are confident that the Greek government will table the necessary reforms."
Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras has clarified that the country will still engage with the EU and the IMF - but reiterated that it hopes to renegotiate the terms of its debt.
