A murder investigation is underway following the death of Michael Foley in Macroom, County Cork earlier in the week.
Sixty-one-year-old Mr Foley's body was found at lunchtime on Tuesday at a property near a sheltered housing complex in Macroom.
He was discovered by his care worker who went to check on him following concerns for his welfare.
Mr Foley, who was originally from Clonakilty, was found on the floor of the property with visible injuries to his head, neck and upper body.
The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer and a Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to liaise with the family of the deceased.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have recently spoken to Mr Foley to contact them.
A post-mortem was completed by State Pathologist, Dr. Margot Bolster at Cork University Hospital.
The results of the post-mortem are not being released for operational reasons.
