The head of Ryanair says the government should impose pay cuts to the public sector. Yesterday the Public Expenditure Minister would not say if he will legislate to implement a pay cut across the board on public servants.

It comes after unions rejected the Croke Park 2 proposals. The government is looking to making savings of €300 million this year on the public pay bill.

Mr. O'Leary was speaking at the "New Economic Leaders Forum" hosted in Dublin City Centre by the US Embassy.

This event also included keynote addresses by Minister of State for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton and William Kennard, U.S. Ambassador to the European Union.

The forum was also held as negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and US are about to be launched.

Trade deal could bring over 4,000 jobs

The Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said earlier this week that a transatlantic trade deal could bring over 4,000 jobs to Ireland.

According to assessments made by the EU Commission and other European bodies a trade and investment partnership could over time boost EU GDP by 0.5% per year and help create approximately 400,000 jobs in the EU.

Trade between the EU and the US accounts for over 40% of global GDP with goods and services worth over €2 billion traded across the North Atlantic every day. A new agreement has the potential to boost GDP in both economies by 0.5%. This could amount to an extra €68 billion for the EU.

Speaking this morning Michael O'Leary said the government should impose the cuts.
