Fianna Fáil leader Micheal Martin has called for the "protection and enhancement" of Moore Street in Dublin's city centre.
The street houses the Head Quarters of the leaders of the 1916 Rising, but there is controversy surrounding the development plans in the area.
The developer Chartered Land Ltd has promised to preserve four key buildings in return for planning permission for a massive shopping centre.
However some of the relatives of the republicans claim the plans do not go far enough and want to see the entire area restored.
