The Fianna Fáil leader will be formally elected as Taoiseach for the second time later today - almost two months after the General Election.

All 174 TDs will meet in the Dáil chamber at 11am to begin the nomination process for Taoiseach.

Sinn Féin will nominate leader Mary Lou McDonald and there will be time for speeches from party representatives and opposition parties.

However, with 95 TDs in the new coalition, Mr Martin is certain to become Taoiseach.

The newly nominated Taoiseach will then leave Leinster House and travel to Áras an Uachtaráin.

Once he receives his Warrant of Appointment and Seal of Office from President Michael D. Higgins, Mr Martin will start appointing his Cabinet.

Ministers

There are 15 Ministerial positions on offer and the coalition parties have agreed that there will be eight ministers from Fianna Fáil and seven from Fine Gael.

On the Fianna Fáil side, Jack Chambers, Norma Foley and Darragh O'Brien are likely to receive full ministries.

It is understood that Charlie McConalogue, Mary Butler, James Brown, Darragh Calleary, Thomas Byrne and Jim O'Callaghan may also be considered for the other roles.

On the Fine Gael side, Simon Harris, Helen McEntee and Paschal Donohoe will all return to Cabinet.

Patrick O'Donovan and Patrick Burke are also heavily favoured as ministerial selections.

Other possible Ministers include Jennifer Carrol MacNeil, Martin Hayden, Hildegarde Houghton and Alan Dillon.
