Mihaly ‘Michu’ Meszaros, the diminutive actor who rose to fame when playing Alf in the 1980s sitcom of the same name, has passed away at the age of 76.
Born in Hungary and standing 83cm tall, the actor was rushed to hospital more than a week ago after being found unresponsive in his home. In a coma ever since, his long-time manager confirmed he passed away to the US gossip site TMZ.

Nicknamed ‘the smallest man on Earth’, Meszaros began his career in show business in 1973 when he became a member of the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus. The actor’s biggest role saw him take on the part of Alf in four seasons of the popular sitcom, with Meszaros playing the cat-eating alien in walking scenes.
After the sitcom ended, Meszaros continued acting, appearing in a number of movies, music videos, and sitcoms. He also became acquainted with Michael Jackson, the two becoming lifetime friends, with Meszaros regularly visiting Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.
