The Health Minister says he wants the Health Service Executive (HSE) investigation into the death of Savita Halappanavar to stand up to the "scrutiny of the world".
James Reilly says he does not want the family of the 31 year-old left in limbo but he insists it is important that the report into her death be thorough.
Savita was 17 weeks pregnant when she died from septicemia at University Hospital Galway last month.
Her husband says she was refused a termination.
The HSE will appoint an independent external expert to investigate her death.
Minister Reilly has told 98FM that he is also considering a separate HIQA report but it that it is important not to "crowd" the situation.
More demonstrations
Pro-Choice campaigners are organising another demonstration on Saturday calling for abortion legislation in the wake of her death.
Last night several thousand people gathered outside the Dáil to call for the introduction of legislation for medical abortions.
The Master of the National Maternity Hospital says she is very disappointed that 20 years after the "X Case" there is still no legislation for medical abortions.
Dr. Rhona Mahony says women and doctors need to be protected by the law.
She spoke to Breakfast here on Newstalk.
